Casarabonela is a municipality of Málaga and is fantastic for nature lovers. Located in the central part of the province in the Sierra de las Nieves area, the town is approximately 30 minutes from Málaga, where you will find the international airport and 50 minutes from Marbella.
Here you find a typical whitewashed town with an Arabic influence, barred windows, balconies, and decorative roof tiles. The picturesque village has preserved much of its old layout with narrow and intricate streets overlooking the valley.
Despite its relatively small population, of around 2,600 inhabitants, the town centre has a strong sense of community, a range of local commodities and numerous al fresco dining options throughout the area.
You will also find a public primary school for children up to the age of 14. If you require secondary schools, including bilingual international schools, you will have to venture out to neighbouring towns. The village also has medical services, a public swimming pool, local shops, and supermarkets.
The area has an abundance of natural beauty and is a great place for activities in the natural environment. Don’t miss the local caves, such as the Yesera and Jácara, or local springs, such as the Fuente Quebrada spring. Interestingly, the spring water from Casarabonela is now bottled and sold to drink throughout Spain.
